I Went To NAMM So You Don't Have To (2023 Ultimate Walkthrough)
back on 2000s I got a demo sound file of the ddrum sound module from, I believe, internet (never owned a ddrum). it was just sick! those advertised 1000 dyinamic levels where there, and I hardly could distinguish those a la "crazy army" rudiments, accents, etc on the demo of actual acustic snare drum. Now, I hear the sound on this video test and it sounds good, but I actually hear a machine gun effect... so now Im doubting if my memory is failing or here is something not right... did anyone heard that demo file im talking about? do you have the same impression than me?
@65Drums Hi Jason, can I setup this as a left handed drummer? thanks
14:40 my favorite drum setup
Love the Rudiments feature. That'd be great for a kid learning his rudes.
I have a really old Casio that was comparable to the Yamahas of the day, and it's still up to date compared to the ones around today. I think for recording and practice needs on the road, they make sense for a drummer. I'm a guitarist, and sometimes I go through bouts of playing the drums a lot every few years, but mine never got a tremendous amount of use. I can also sequence top notch drum tracks, so that makes them a novelty for me. *I suppose with that point made, if you're going to be on the road or somewhere you will be deprived of your kit for a significant length of time, then for the dedicated drummer, they're a must.* You also made a critical point, they're really not all that fun to play! lol. I love playing my full sized electronic and acoustic sets, but when it's not a staple in your daily life as a musician, these tabletop sets are fairly awkward.
That's a lot of buttons I wouldn't be able to keep up.
alex van halen often overshadowed by eddie and dave.....Alex van halen is one of the best if not the best drummers that ever lived!!! incredible!!!
I would love to know if 2 units can be connected in parallel . I did it with Sansamp RBI & RPM . 2 Preamps with 1 sound. Alot of people say that the unit is all bass drum and no floor tom or cymbals??
The mount mechanism is the same as the Gruv-X blocks for those familiar with that product. The Gruv-X is an excellent addition for cross stick, but this seems a bit out there to me, mostly due to the price and the reported issues setting it up. While the BT-1 is made of plastic, it is very solid. This definitely looks slicker, but it seems to need another revision and a price drop.
Is dream Theater's grammy nominated song on it?
Such a pitty about the double bass pedal not really being ideal
Which has the most sensitive snare? The strata prime or the TD 27KV2? I like to play super quiet buzz rolls. Thanks Justin!
Wondering hard if you can do a Goedrum open closed hat on a stand with this
Remember to down the road you can always up grade your modules ☺️
Awesome video, thanks for the information. Can you do a video on optimizing the hi hat please? How do you set it to really get all of the open hats sounding and feeling realistic to an acoustic kit? Also wondering about best practices for building custom kits with third party wavs or even self recorded wavs. Thanks!
I used to use the DD-55 on my acoustic kit. Found it in goodwill for $20. I was never able to connect via midi when I played on an electronic kit but but as a device for extra sounds it sounded good! Very cool slash cymbal on it which I used a lot. If I had it now I would use it with my drum kit powered my the Roland TD-7 but I run EZ drummer 8. I’ll have to check thrift stores. I’d buy the TD 55, 65, and 75.
Would be nice to have chapters
Hey Brother, Thank you so much for this video I’ve been in a band always played regular drums. Got a Simmons 1000 dinosaur I know lol I was messing around with the module in the trigger threshold ext. settings and i lost the speed of my bass drum kept getting ghost hits couldn’t figure out what i did this video fixed my problem in seconds. Also thanks for explaining the duration time of the hits i messed with that also had an idea of what it did but what i didn’t know is the allowance time before the next drum hit/sound extremely helpful. Now i have the drums sounding and responding exactly how i want to. I built my own kit but didn’t know i can also use this information for the preset kits as well. Now i have it on the prekit setting for the 80s and love it. Thanks a Million 😅
I have used the Pyle ( Medli ) version now for the last 2 years… Works great… I am using it for recording in a space limited environment. I find unless you are a drummer, most don’t even realize it’s not “real “ kit . For the money good value 😊
How do I know if the set I am looking at on the internet is the first, second, third, or whatever addition?
Hey Justin! I’m looking to purchase the Alesis strata prim or the Roland TD 27KV2 and was wondering was the Alesis snare as sensitive as the Roland since I do a lot of buzz rolls, Thanks for your help! Jamie
Amigo buenas noches. De este modelo a roland td17kvx. Por cual te vas casi están al mismo precio. Ayuda!!!!
I just got the Strata Prime kit as well and can't figure out how to change the midi note that gets sent for each pad/trigger. This was simple to do on the Strike Pro, but I can't see a way to do it with this module and it's not mentioned anywhere in the manual either. Have you tried to do that? Did you figure it out?
Wats the best beater for Yamaha dtx6?
I found one issue. If you play lefty, and use headphone jack, spatial audio is off ie you hear the low Tom to the right whereas when lefty it's to left
I went to try their free trial when they hit me with the "you need to give us your credit card and choose a subscription to try the free trial" which gave me huge red flags. Not going to try this, rockband seems better anyways
Can you please advise Roland TD-27KV2 is right choice for a beginner??
I hope digital latin percussion comes out. They have to find a way to make digital timbales and congas. Roland's offerings in digital latin percussion sucks ass right now. The Handsonic is an embarrassment and should be taken off the market in the name of Giovanni Hidalgo.
Really nice review. I've been almost ready to pull the trigger and buy a Strike Pro kit. But seeing this review, and I might pick up some extra shifts to come up with the extra cash to buy this kit. Thanks so much for the honest observations!
What really bugs me is that a cheap no-name brand like Donner can come out with some great innovations and a module with a nice big screen but for some reason, Roland and Yamaha have these tiny ass little screens I can barely see from the drum throne.
Keep in mind that if your's (like mine) is defective Alesis will offer to fix it in 2 - 6 weeks...
notice the confident way guys look behind this kit compared to other e drum videos
Could anyone confirm if you are able to plug in different brand’s hi hats into this alesis ekit? I asked alesis’s customer service and they gave a complicated answer. I would rather have an ekit hi hat with two rubber cymbals that open and close and don’t move around as much as I play. “Regarding compatibility with other brands, this can be a bit complicated. The cymbals and drums have multiple zones requiring more complicated signals than just on/off messages that some triggers provide to modules. I cannot guaranty any compatibility outside the Alesis brand, but you can always experiment.”
In easy words don't buy this brand, it is always something wrong with those
Where can you buy replacement spacers, that keeps them from spinning for these cymbals, either ones. I got a new hihat stand and the diameter pole is different? AHH!!!!
I've been looking for the full measurement of the complete kit once built. I know that it may vary on how close you set the bars, but I'm wondering the approximate measurements just to see if it will fit my office...
This will replace my DTXplorer. I'd love to be able to afford a top end Roland but that's a pipe dream. This seems like a nice middle ground. Shame the pads are a bit small but you always have to compromise. My neighbours will love how much quieter those pads are. Shame you don't have the same level of rotation on the toms.
TY for the video! :)
Do you think I could take the nitro max parts and fix them to a turbo mesh frame (for space reasons)
Thanks for the video. Are you still happy with this? Seems like having to replace that mesh & foam head every few years is a bit of a weak design?
Hey Justin ! (and everyone else !) I just sold my TD27-KV2, I just can't get a grip on the module and these sounds are just terrible imo ! Heavily considering : - Gewa G3 Club 5 (roughly 2000€) - Efnote 3X ( around the 2500€ mark) - The Amazing Strata Prime ! (3500€ ouch !) Which would you reccomend for an intermediate drummer looking for good sounds and hardware without having too much of a hassle setting things up ? I mean the Strata sure seems amazing, but could I save 1,5k€ and have fun with the G3 and it's acoustic looking pads ? Can I add any pads on the others ? Are all of them compatible with SD or EZDrummer ? Thankkkkkkkssssssssss!
After years, now I’m ready to dig in a project like this one, you made it possible with this video. Keep doing your amazing content. Thanks!
How is the feel on these kits? I’ve always been a heavy hitter and one of the things I’ve never liked with electric kit is the ones I’ve played haven’t had a good feel to me. Concerned with having to change how I play physically and then taken things practiced on an electric kit to a standard kit.
I once converted a 16" floor tom into a BD trigger using a mesh head and a trigger mounted on the rim. Being a hard hitter, I quickly found that the beater made a considerable indentation on the mesh head. I tried adding a sticker patch to the striking area (Remo or Evans, i don't remember) but the pad wouldn't stick properly to the mesh head. Now I want to convert a 22" bass drum. Does anyone know another way to reinforce a mesh head to be able to withstand a heavy beating long term? I would have gone for the KD-A22 but they are hard to come by these days and I don't trust Roland to have spare parts available if I ever need them in the future. BTW a KD-220 is out of the question - the price is insane and I am not paying that kind of money even if I can afford it.
Hello brother, may i ask whats the difference between this TD17KVX vs TD17KVX2
I have to say, I am encouraged to see other people are doing the same thing I am. I thought I was crazy buying pieces and parts and building a Frankenstein multi-module e-kit, but here we have stuff even more advanced. Love this, thank you, Justin for this segment.
I have a DD-50 that I am using to learn how to play drums on. I found it at a pawn shop with no pedals, so I 3-D printed new ones. It works great!
Great Stuff!! I've used Roland and Pearl Mimic Pro . . . ended up with Yamaha DTX10 as my gigging kit . . . ALL have strengths in some ways and weaknesses in others, it's great how you cover the differences!
Your videos are amazing. I have recently seen a video on zeitgeist low volume triggered cymbals. If you get a chance to review those would really appreciate.
Hi Hi, I have had a mimic pro for some time now. Now I have a question about that. I need to figure out how my master mix works. I now only get sound through my in-ear system. I can't control my master mix over my line outs. how can I fix it?
